“If you’re right knackered, quit your whinging and have a pint!” If you had trouble understanding the previous sentence, it might be time for you to brush up on your British slang. The best place to learn the language of Merry Olde England is the Sherlock Holmes Pub. Located right around the corner from ourGatlinburg cabins, this authentic British pub offers the finest English food, beer and culture in the Smokies.
A Liverpudlian in the Smokies
If you are looking to hear some quintessential British phrases, be sure to keep your ears open when Steve Yates speaks. A native of Liverpool, England, Yates is the owner of the Sherlock Holmes Pub. Enamored with Gatlinburg’s natural beauty, Yates moved to Tennessee 25 years ago. Steve started the Sherlock Holmes pub to share his British heritage with visitors and locals in the Great Smoky Mountains.
British Cuisine
The Sherlock Holmes Pub serves traditional English fare. Many of the entrees are inspired by characters and events from the Sherlock Holmes book series, such as Watson’s Chicken & Chips, Sherlock Holmes Cottage Pie, and the Baker Street Burger. One of the highlights of the menu is the Hounds of Baskerville Guinness Pie. This classic dish consists of steak, gravy, vegetables and Guinness Stout in a flaky pie crust. The Sherlock Holmes Pub also has an excellent kid’s menu for children under 11 years old.
After a satisfying meal at the Sherlock Holmes Pub, you will be ready to retire to one of our Gatlinburg Cabins.
