What is the cost of freedom? Like the saying goes, “freedom isn’t free”, which sums it up nicely if potentially leaving out some needed context. Freedom is not simply a privilege for those born high, it’s a right that all people should be granted. The pursuit of happiness, the safeguards of liberty, the safeguards of justice, the safeguards of civil rights and many more – these are all relatively young concepts and actions when compared to the totality of known human history and they have been challenged time and time again. The cost of keeping America free has been the sacrifice of many; many hours, many years and many lives. All gave some, some gave all.
As we’ve said on this blog before, Sevier County and the Tennessee Smoky Mountains are big on giving thanks to those who have sacrificed time, energy and more to keep the rest of us safe here at home and one big way our area likes to give back is the upcoming Celebrate Freedom in Pigeon Forge. Celebrate Freedom is a different kind of “special event” where, for the entire month of August, participating businesses will provide discounts and other specials for current serving or past members of the United States military. All you need to do is show your military ID and the discount is applied. While the cost of a Smoky Mountain vacation is little compared to the cost of freedom, we at Bear Camp Cabins hope Celebrate Freedom in Pigeon Forge goes some way in saying “Thank you!” to our current and veteran members of the armed forces.
